Ways to increase fuel mileage?

2016 Fiesta ST - Canada. 100,000km on the car. Getting 11L/100km (21mpg roughly)… is it my foot or the car? I’ll be honest I don’t drive a lot so when I do it’s almost always quite spirited driving. Time to do plugs maybe? Is there a tune out there for better milage? Car is bone stock, tires are Indy 500’s. Or is this just average for these cars?

Lol it’s not a huge deal but man, just looked at one of my customers car, base model fiesta with an auto. 4.7L/100km…you’d think after 7 years of owning this thing I’d calm down a bit while driving…

I got similar mileage on my first Fiesta, just from city commuting. That’s the reality of stop-and-go traffic combined with a heavy foot whenever there’s a chance to accelerate.

That’s my situation, short trip to work, all city, couple straight stretches for some fun… yea I’m going to do plugs and filters but I think it may just be the reality of it

I was getting about 23 mpg in stop & go traffic taking side streets to work. When I started commuting on the freeway, even though it was slow and boring, I rarely came to a standstill and my MPGs went up to 26

Small displacement turbo motors run extremely rich in low speed/high load situations, like taking off during a standstill or in low speed to avoid low-speed pre-ignition

Stay out of the boost and avoid stop-and-go traffic. Being gentle with the throttle helps too. My commute is a 31-mile mix of suburban roads, highways, traffic, and city driving. I get around 28-33 mpg, with some spirited driving, but mostly keeping a light foot.

I doubt it’s your driving style. I’ve got a 2017 with 70,000 miles and get around 29 mpg, even with a pretty heavy foot and a lot of highway driving at 85-90 mph. You shouldn’t be getting 21 mpg, no matter how spirited your driving is.

I get a little better than 30mpg with mixed use, I’ve seen 28 mpg on the dash when that became more city and horrible stop and go mostly.

I had a 2016 Stage 2 Collins tune, and it averaged 8.7L/100km over 3 years, mostly commuting with a heavy foot and weekend runs in the hills. I can easily bring it down to 6.5L by driving more sensibly. A good tune should make the engine run more efficiently if you drive accordingly, with more power when you want it. If the car is stock, something definitely seems off!

Another fuel economy post where no one compares their average MPG with their average MPH, both of which your car’s computer can easily show you. Those figures are far more useful than the vague, experience-based answers people tend to give here.
