I have been looking around for a used small city car around 10k. I found ford fiesta to be a much better drive then Mazda 2. But the reviews everywhere rate Mazda to be much better. Any thoughts?
P.S seems like Mazda 2 is a clear winner or if these two.
I’d generally expect Mazda to hold up better over time. When buying used, you’ll have a clear idea of what’s already worn or may wear quickly. Both the Mazda and the other hatchback you’re considering are perfectly fine and cheap to repair. Ultimately, go with what feels better for you!
If you’re looking at a Mazda 2, that’s a solid choice! Just be cautious with the Ford Fiesta, especially if it has the 6-speed automatic/PowerShift dual-clutch transmission. There have been numerous reports of issues with that transmission, so it could be a significant risk. While some owners haven’t faced problems, it’s better to be safe than sorry when considering a used vehicle. The Mazda 2 is generally regarded as reliable, so it might be the safer bet!
It sounds like you’ve had a great experience with your 2012 Mazda 2! Comfort is definitely subjective when it comes to seats, and it’s interesting that you found the Fiesta’s seats uncomfortable. If you prefer the Mazda 2 for its comfort and overall performance, that might be the way to go, especially if you’re leaning towards a manual transmission. Ultimately, go with what feels right for you in terms of driving experience and comfort!
If you haven’t done so already, consider adding the Suzuki Swift and Kia Picanto to your list and take them all for a test drive. They are popular options in this price range, lightweight, and offer good power-to-weight ratios.
I owned a 2008 Mazda 2 Neo manual for ten years after buying it new. It never gave me any issues, and I loved it so much that I still get emotional thinking about the day I sold it. I drove it from Sydney to Melbourne to Brisbane when I had to relocate for work. It was relatively comfortable and had surprisingly good cargo space for a small car—enough to fit a Billy bookshelf flatpack if you fold the seats properly. They’re great little cars; I only sold mine because my bad knee made it impossible for me to drive manual anymore.
