Opinion on Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec

Hello everyone,

First of all, my apologies as my car knowledge is very limited, hence the post.

I’m looking at the linked car below. From my research this fiesta model is a decent car which is pretty reliable should it be well maintained.

Would the price be fair based on what is shown in the advertisement?

I’ve checked the MOT history and the only fail was a fractured coil spring. All the rest have passed. It has a good service history so I would assume the engine has been well looked after.

I’m not sure on price, it seems ok to me but I’m not sure if I’m missing anyone.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated before I arrange a test drive.

Also, are Trust Ford likely to negotiate on price?

A grey Zetec with navigation sounds like rental car specs!

I’d definitely recommend checking the service history carefully before signing to ensure it’s not an ex-rental.

Looks good to me. Just keep in mind that the timing belt and related components should be changed at 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, which should only cost a few hundred pounds. Take it for a test drive; if you notice any potential issues like low tire tread or scratches, use that as leverage to negotiate the price or just ask about it. Eleven years ago, I only got a couple of hundred pounds off my car at Trust Ford Bristol by simply asking; they knew it was a low-volume model in high demand, so they weren’t willing to reduce the price further.

I’ve only driven a 1.25 as a courtesy car while my 198bhp diesel Mondeo was in for service, so to me, it felt very slow. However, it’s a great little car that handles and drives really well. It’s not as good as the 1.0 EcoBoost, but we all know about the issues with that engine!

I loved my 1.25 Zetec Fiesta! Mine was on an S plate (1998), so it’s probably considered a classic now. If it has the same engine, it’s older technology, but likely very reliable!

1.25 zetec will be way more reliable than any of this eco shite

Shows as good price. So yeah, I’d say it’s priced well.

We have a slightly older model of these, and they’re fantastic cars. In the 8 years we’ve had it, I think it’s needed:

  • A front subframe, which is a bit of a weak point after around 80k miles. It cost a couple of hundred to fix.
  • A spring, which was inexpensive.
  • An auxiliary belt, which I replaced myself.

It’s super easy to work on—I’ve done all the servicing, including the belt. The engine is great for what it is, and it steers nicely. These cars are ridiculously popular for a reason!
