I’m thinking about buying a used 2019 Ford Fiesta with an automatic transmission, but I’m a bit hesitant because of the controversy surrounding the Powershift. Could you share your experience with this model and whether it’s suitable for everyday use, just to get from point A to point B?
I have a 2019 model and have mostly driven it on the highway for 60,000 miles, and I haven’t had any transmission issues so far. It’s actually been a pretty remarkable car. But if you were family, I’d strongly advise you to steer clear. These automatic transmissions have a reputation for a reason.
I don’t have a 2019, but I do own an 2018, and I don’t think they made any significant changes to the transmissions that year. Mine is currently at 140,000 miles and hasn’t had any issues; I’d confidently drive it across the country tomorrow without hesitation. The only thing I’ve had to replace is the battery. If you find it at a good price with decent mileage, I say go for it!
I have a 63 plate with 41,000 miles on it, and so far, I haven’t had any issues. It does judder a bit in second gear when I’m stuck in really heavy traffic. Before I got it, Ford performed a gearbox remap at 17,000 miles. It’s such a shame how this has turned out because it has a really smooth gearbox, and I enjoy driving it.
I’m driving a 2015 model with the Powershift transmission, and I haven’t had any problems at all, aside from regular maintenance.
I have a 2019 model with 46,000 miles on it, and I love it! However, it definitely took some time to learn how to drive it to avoid that shudder. You can’t treat these like a regular automatic; you really have to pay attention to how your vehicle accelerates and decelerates, and you’ll definitely feel the gear changes. The better you get at it, the more enjoyable it becomes to drive.
Keep researching and learning about driving a dual-clutch automatic to see if it’s a hassle you’re willing to take on, and make an informed decision.
