Is Ford Fiesta Reliable?

Hey guys I’m looking about buying a 2011+ fiesta just to drive around to keep miles off my new car, something I can drive on the highway and not have to worry about tons of rock chips! Are these cars pretty reliable? I was told if you got them with the manual transmission they were good. I’m trying to stay away from the ecoboost! Is the 1.6 reliable? Thanks for any help.

I’ve had my 2011 manual Zetec S 1.6 for over nine years now, and I’ve had to replace the springs, rear suspension bushes, and the heater resistor. All of those repairs were cheap and easy to handle. It has just over 90K miles on it and has been driven quite spiritedly, yet it’s been absolutely faultless. As long as the major service is done and you keep up with annual maintenance, you’ll be in great shape!

Why have a new car if your afraid to drive it?

I own a 2016 Titanium 5-speed, and overall, it’s been quite reliable. I replaced the timing belt and water pump at around 95K miles. The hydraulic slave clutch cylinder went out, and since they had to drop the gearbox, I also replaced the clutch. Nothing too out of the ordinary—just typical wear and tear items. I definitely recommend going for the manual; I’ve heard some horror stories about the automatic transmissions in these cars.

I have a 2013 Titanium X 1.6 automatic.

I’ve been told that the engine is reliable, but the gearbox has some issues. My car has 40,000 miles on it and shifts smoothly without any problems. If the gearbox fails, I’ll just have another one installed. It’s frustrating that Ford hasn’t taken responsibility for this known issue.

I’m curious—why buy a new car if you don’t plan on driving it? It doesn’t really make sense. While keeping the mileage low might boost its resale value, you’ll likely lose those savings by having to maintain another vehicle.
