Ford Fiesta Ecoboost timing belt change

Hi

Was informed that my 2015 ecoboost is due a new timing belt soon (in the next year - 10 years) and my local non-ford garage told me it was a massive job due to the design during this period. They said it could be 2-3 grand due to the amount of labour involved (basically it appears this model they buried in the engine and it required ‘special tools’). They said it might be cheaper to go to a non-ford garage.

So my questions are

(1) is this true that it’s a major job on these models?
(2) what would an estimate be for a Ford garage replacement be?

(3) does anyone know of independent garages in the Berkshire UK area that can do this cheaper / is it a good idea to do this?

Thanks in advance
Scott

Update - Finally got it done with MCR Automotive in Ruislip (West London) - a 1 man band ex-ford mechanic. It cost £709 including water pump change at the same time. It is a major job (and took about 6-7 hours of labour). estimates from ford ran to £2K

Hi! I also have an EcoBoost. It was a big job, but I had mine done at 70,000 miles by a garage in Lincoln called Eco Pro. They’re Ford specialists and did a fantastic job. Even two years later, the owner is still available to answer any questions I have, and he had the best quote.

I’m in Essex, and I went to a non-Ford dealer for my 2012 EcoBoost at 62,000 miles. I paid £1,400 for the timing belt, oil and water pumps, service, and AC re-gas.

Yes, it’s a big job, but it shouldn’t cost £2,000 to £3,000. I’ve heard of prices around £1,400, which someone else has suggested as well. In my opinion, this is not something to skimp on. If you’re interested, look into wet timing belts—some Ford EcoBoosts have issues where they disintegrate and clog the oil system, which can lead to oil starvation!

I rang a few garages amd all ranged between 1100 to 1600. So bit the bullet and booked in with independent garage that specialises in Ford…for 1280 Inc vat.
