Does anyone know what this button means?

That’s the button for the heated windscreen—I had it in my old Fiesta. It works surprisingly well, though it can be a bit too effective at times!

I’m glad when people try and understand their vehicles, I feel like you should “pilot” a car, not just drive it, and should know what everything does.

But…all cars have user manuals, and I feel like 95% of people don’t even flick through them.

It’s all in there, just like a normal instruction manual, including fuse numbers so if something stops working, you can check it rather than take it to a garage.

Not having a go at Op, but “what does this do” is such a common Reddit question with cars, and you’re guaranteed to get some /s or misinformation for the sake of misinformation, when the thing you’re in probably has an big old indexed manual with it.

Sorry/not sorry for the rant.

The heated windscreen is a fantastic solution for winter! It’s such a quick way to de-ice, no more scraping the windshield in the cold. Just press the button, and it clears up in no time—super convenient!

That’s a great fun fact! ISO 2575:2021 standardizes automotive symbols globally, which means that the symbol for a heated windscreen, for example, should be consistent across all vehicles, no matter the brand or country. It’s great that there’s an international standard to make it easier for drivers to understand their car’s features, no matter where they are.

Rear screen electronic demister. The one on the heat selector is for the front screen. Or the other way round, but either way, screen demisters.

Which screen are you using above the radio controls? I really like that one.

I’ve been using one that’s mounted over my rearview mirror, and I love it. But it’s crazy how cars always slow down when they pass me just to check out the screen. It’s ridiculous!

In the USA, we refer to it as rear defrost, and it’s used to help melt ice during the winter.

It’s the heated windscreen, where heater elements are embedded in the glass, allowing it to heat up without the need for blowing hot air. It’s incredibly useful for hands-free de-icing during the winter.
