Buying used st advice

A gym friend of mine is selling his ST all of a sudden, after having it for about a year, he decided to sell it for a reasonable price. He doesnt drive fast and takes car of the car.

He mentioned something that i found kind if strange. He said hes changing the valves. I asked him if it had any problems and the only thing he told me is that one of the tire pressure sensors is faulty.

Should i be concerned about the valve thing? He said he was going to change it after 70,000km. The car has about 120,000km.

No, but definitely ask about the timing belt and water pump, and make sure to check the service history.

Thank you. This is my first st and not super knowledgeable about cars so advice helps

The timing belt and water pump are normal maintenance items that ford says should be done around 150miles. So probably coming up soon. That being said it’s a one and done and the cars run great. Also, he’s probably talking about a tire valve, not an engine valve (where my mind went first) and that’s no biggie at all. Especially if replacing it fixed the tire pressure sensor

I think there’s a miscommunication—he’s probably talking about the tire valve stems. The TPMS sensors are built into the valve stems, so if a sensor goes bad, you’d need to replace the whole valve stem.

You don’t just replace drivetrain valves for no reason, and any issue requiring a new valve would cause the engine to run terribly. If he’s getting new valves put in the head and can’t explain why, I wouldn’t buy it.

US owners manual says 150k miles with no mention of time.
