2016 Ford Fiesta S 1.6 overheating at idle with AC on

Hi all I bought a 2016 fiesta with the 1.6 N/A motor with 167k. It’s a project car that I bought and have been doing all the work. What I’ve noticed is when the vehicle is idling with the ac on it will overheat after about 10-15 mins with the fan blowing at full speed. I bought a water pump and timing belt kit but haven’t installed it yet as it’s extremely hot out but do plan on installing it. I’m curious if these cars have head gasket issues like the ecoboost engines do. I don’t see coolant on the ground but it does seem to lose coolant. Engine runs super smooth and I haven’t seen any coolant in the oil. I’m gonna replace the thermostat too to refresh the car. I do get heat in the car and it’s hot and cools the car down. The car was sitting for a year before I bought it and when I drove the car it did not overheat. Any ideas?

When I had a similar issue, it was due to a small coolant leak—once from a seam in the radiator and the other time from a hose that had barely split. Both times, I used UV dye and a light to pinpoint the problem since it was in a compact area.

In my case, the leak was on top of the exhaust, so I would smell it when making a right turn, but there were no other signs and no drips.

I’d clean the radiator before doing anything else. Eliminate the easiest issues first before you start replacing parts. Then I’d pressurize the system to find out where the coolant is going.

I been having the same issues and was told to replace the AC clutch/compressor. You should check for used ones 4sure.

Check to see if your coolant cap is broken, and while you’re at it, bleed the radiator just in case there’s air trapped in the system.
