Can anyone help? When getting up to speed and when braking strongly the steering wheel shakes and I can feel the car under me shaking. What could be causing this and what can can I do to fix it?
You’ll likely need new discs and pads, depending on the car’s mileage and your driving style.
It’s also possible a wheel weight has fallen off, causing an imbalance, or that the front suspension is worn.
The best solution is to have a trusted local garage inspect it. I’d personally recommend avoiding large chains like KwikFit or A1 Autocentres. Instead, ask your friends where they take their cars for service. There are also mobile mechanics who can come to your home or work for convenience.
Most likely, you need new rotors and pads.
For me, cheap pads and rotors usually last around 6 to 8 months before I start experiencing issues like you’re describing, and I have to replace them.
You can feel it at any speed, but it gets worse the faster you go when you apply the brake.
I just replaced mine yesterday and paid just under $100 for a set of pads and rotors from Amazon. Honestly, it takes longer to gather all your tools than it does to actually change them out.
I think something is amiss or you drive like a banshee if you’re rotors/pads wear out that fast man. I just use my '14 for a daily driver and the rotors/pads on the front have lasted at least 3 years. The rear drums I only just changed because I warped them when checking the shoes. If I’d left them alone they probably would have lasted another 3 years!
If it’s happening while accelerating too, you should check the drive shafts.
I can fix it mate! bring it to my garage
