Asked for an estimate on repairs before giving the approval to start repairs in the morning, they said it would be $700.
every bit of info i can find said the absolute highest end to replace would be $500. how hard are these to just order the part and replace myself cause that seems like an absolutely insane price for what seems like a pretty small repair to me
Check with your local Ford dealer. Some of Ford’s cars from that model year had a door latch recall. I can’t recall if the Fiesta was included, but it’s definitely worth looking into.
Given how high this estimate is, I’m assuming the door latch is painted? I’ve worked on plenty of door latches, and I can’t recall ever charging this much for one. While you could typically look for a used one, the recall could mean you’d face the same problem again. My suggestion is, since you’re already paying out of pocket, to find a reputable independent shop with good reviews to get an estimate and see what they say. I can only guess it would be cheaper than this. Hope that helps!
If you’re considering a DIY approach and there have been multiple failures with Ford latches, it might be worth checking Amazon for an aftermarket option with good reviews. This recommendation comes from general observation rather than personal experience, but if the original Ford part has issues, an aftermarket latch could be significantly cheaper and possibly even more reliable. While I usually prefer OEM parts, this could be a situation where going aftermarket makes sense. Just make sure to read the reviews carefully before purchasing!
Don’t think its painted. Just a basic door latch. The price seems way high and I dont plan on letting the dealership do the repairs. Feel like literally anywhere would be cheaper but I’m not the most knowledgeable on this stuff.
It was repaired under recall but since that was over 12 months ago they won’t replace it under that again despite being the exact same issue that they recalled it for.
