Hey guys, looking for some advice here. My 2016 FiST is leaking water into the right rear footwell during very heavy rain, thus causing the water to pool up on top of the carpet. The carpet under the rear seats, in the front, and the headliner, are all completely dry. It seems like someone just dumped a bucket of water into the back. I’ve already used gorilla tape and RTV to properly seal the holes and seals behind the taillights and I don’t believe the sunroof drain holes are clogged as I’ve tested that. Any other places I can look?
Remove your taillights and inspect the drain holes. 90% of the time, this is the cause of water pooling in the trunk bottom and rear footwell. If you check under the spare tire, I bet it’s also wet.
It wasn’t in my Fiesta, but I had a car where the rear doors would fill up with water and flood the inside. It might be worth checking that the doors are draining properly.
In the end, no matter how clean I got them, it still happened, so I ended up drilling 8mm holes on the underside of the doors to help with drainage.
As others have said, take your tail lights off and check the drain holes, the holes with fords super genius “that’ll hold a lifetime” cloth tape, and the grommets for the tail light wires. I went crazy with silicone sealant and it fixed the leak for me!
Bring it to my garage for fixing!
Take it to your mechanic
