Oil change question

Hey yall, what oil are you using for medium-heavy use? I want to be able to track the car and I drive it relatively hard from time to time

I’ve been using Mobil 1 5W-30 for the last 124,000 miles with 5,000-mile oil changes. I change it earlier if I take it to the track.

I’m surprised how many people are changing their oil every 5K miles. I usually go closer to 10K miles with Mobil 1 5W-30. But then again, I put about 1,500 highway miles on my Fiesta each month, so most of my driving isn’t that tough on the engine.

Always follow what the engineers recommend in the owner’s manual. They’re the ones who design the engine and know what it needs. Don’t just go by what random people on Reddit say… although we all seem to agree on this one.

I thought about that too, but then I put a bigger turbo on and decided to add 140hp over the factory output.

True, the same engineers who recommend different oils in the US compared to the rest of the world to meet US fuel efficiency standards. It’s definitely something to consider when following those recommendations.

For daily driving, I use 5W-30 in the summer and 5W-20 in the winter. For track use, I go with 5W-40. Temperature is the main factor for choosing oil weight/viscosity. I change it every 3-5K miles with Mobil 1 and a factory filter.

Get the Motorcraft FL-400S; it’s a bit longer, which gives it more filter surface area.
