{I don’t know if this subreddit allows multiple questions in a single post, or if each issue must be its own post. Apologies, in advance, if I’ve done this wrong.}
Over 60mph, the engine runs over 2200rpm. It feels like it’s stuck in overdrive, assuming it has overdrive. There is a button on the gear shift, but it doesn’t seem to do anything.
I don’t know if electronics might’ve got messed up when the previous owner was in the process of putting in an aftermarket radio. There’s nothing, at all, on this display, and I don’t know what’s supposed to be there. (FYI, the aftermarket radio doesn’t work, at all.)
I have a code for a loose gas cap, but, of course, it has that unforgivable capless thing. It chokes a bit when first accelerating, so I’m wondering if it might be the evap system? (I sure hope it’s not that awful sealed transmission.)
The stock radio (and cover) was left in the back seat. The box has a place a CD appears to go into, and the cover has a “CD” button & apparent “eject” button, but I can’t figure out where a CD could be inserted. There’s no slot, anywhere big enough to stick a CD through.
Specs are; 1.6L L4 DOHC 16V, 6-speed Automatic, made in Cuautitlan, Mexico
The lights coming on when you start the car indicate that they’re functioning properly. If one doesn’t light up during startup, you’ll know the bulb is burned out, and even if there’s a problem, you won’t see an error light. It’s just a simple way to check for burnt-out bulbs.
As for my screen, it displays information and serves as a menu selection tool. When it’s off, it shows the time and date; when it’s on, you can access setup options, radio info, and other settings. It also includes warning chimes, lane assist sounds, and various little features.
You do know that overdrive refers to a gear designed to lower engine RPMs, right? And 2,200 RPM at 60 mph is quite typical and low for a small engine car.
Overdrive is essentially an extra gear above the standard highest gear.
I just took my car for a drive on a flat, straight, well-paved highway. At 60 mph, it’s still over 2200 RPM. When I let off the gas, it maintained that speed and RPM. I also got it up to 70 mph, where it hit around 2700 RPM, and again, when I let off the gas, it continued to cruise at that speed.
I’m starting to think this might just be “normal.”
I’ve noticed radio covers that include a CD slot (unlike mine). What’s puzzling is that there are “CD” and “eject” buttons, yet it doesn’t seem to have the capability to play CDs.
I included the photo of the instrument panel startup mainly for diagnostic purposes for anyone reviewing this, potentially to indicate whether or not there’s overdrive. I don’t have any issues, concerns, or confusion about the instrument panel itself.
