Can I clone 2014 Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost key fob myself?

I’ve lost my spare key fob and now only have one working fob. I’ve been quoted some heavy prices for getting a replacement spare fob, but I want to know if it’s possible to buy an unprogrammed fob and program it myself. Has anyone here done this and, if so, how easy is it to do?

Trust me, take it to Ford.

I had a similar experience with my old Mondeo. I watched a YouTube video on how to fix it myself, but ended up completely locking myself out of the car. I managed to get it open, but then the immobilizer wouldn’t let it start. In the end, I had to have it towed to Ford to get it reprogrammed.

Thanks for the warning. I’ll err on the sensible side.

I’ve done it myself with a VVDI Mini key tool, a new key and PCB, a CR2302 battery for the new key, and a 5-pack of ‘super transponders’ from AliExpress. Spent £100 on a key cutter and £7 on blades, but the central locking never worked on the new key.

Altogether, I’ve spent around £250 making my own keys. I’m about to do another car with the same kit, so I’ll probably be ahead at that point.

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can recover some of the costs if you cut other keys like for your house or windows, but it’s barely worth it. I’ve made about 15 non-car keys and 3 car keys, with 1 dud car key and about 5 dud regular keys that didn’t work because I cut them wrong.

I’ve probably saved about £5. Haha.

Well, you’ve really persuaded me with your story. I’ll carry on with the only key I have chained to my belt.

If you’re a Costco member, they occasionally have a vendor on site.
I’ve not had to use them, but hear good things about the service and price.
