2014 Ford Fiesta

Hello! Looking for advice for I have no car experience.

I bought my 2014 Fiesta used at 90k miles, currently has 126k. It started having a little slip going into first around 100k and now started a ocelating while. After taking it in, transmission is passed the point of no return. After digging online for options, I could buy a new transmission for 5k, not really an option for me, or I could get a remand or a refurbished for 1-2k and another 1k for labor. That is a pretty substantial amount for me. I’m willing to go through with it, but I worry that if Fiestas notoriously have transmission issue, it would be devastating to pay all this money and then something wrong happens in 6 months or a year. What are the ressonable amounts of risk to do this? Will a remand or refurbished transmission run smoothly with my current engine that is in good shape? What are the pro/cons?

A remanufactured unit will likely deliver similar mileage to the stock one.

I had part of my 2015 transmission covered by a warranty that Ford had to extend. I’m not sure if that’s still available, but it’s worth googling to check if there’s any recall or other assistance that might help.

The transmission going in is the same as the one coming out, and they’re known to fail frequently. So, eventually, it will likely fail again, even the brand-new $5k one.

That being said, I’d check if it’s the stock transmission. If it’s lasted 130k miles, who knows, you might get another 100k out of the refurbished one if you take good care of it.

Ford Fiesta 2014 model is a fantastic car
